sleep deprivation vs. new projects

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I haven’t slept well the past couple of days, and I think it’s starting to show.
It could be because my mind won’t shut off.
Or it could be because harper has taken up snoring like an old man at night. Either one, really.

It’s funny, I’ve always had dark under eye circles, it runs in my family I guess.  But since I’ve been in graduate school, they’ve gotten much worse.  I use hardcore concealer to attempt to you know, conceal them, but it’s no use, really.  By mid-afternoon, they’re back.  I should learn to embrace them…maybe.

I’m starting up a new project, called South By Texas State. I’ll be working with fellow new media graduate students, covering sxswi (south by southwest, the interactive part). All the big names and up and comers from the new media/social media/interactive journalism/tech industry will be there.  Last year’s crew won an award for their site, so we’re very excited to continue it for sxswi 2010.

Maybe it’s this semester that’s got me up at night (I wish that was all).  I find myself awake at night thinking about the next few months and it seems to weigh me down.  But on the other hand, I’m trying to approach it was a positive attitude.  This year is going to bring a lot of firsts for me, but I guess it’s the perspective you have on things that really makes all the difference.  I’m just glad that The Nanny is on at 2 a.m. on Nick at Nite to keep me company.

the first meeting

throughout my three semesters in graduate school,
i’ve been fortunate enough to meet some really great people.
meet the bad ass media women society. no, i didn’t coin the phrase, it was some how formed over twitter.  these four ladies (plus myself, i suppose) are the culmination of the future of mass media.
 public relations+web design+social media+journalism (print and online).
surviving graduate school together definitely creates a tight-knit bond,
and these ladies are so inspirational.
this was our first “meeting” and it included twitter talk, networking advice,
salsa, relationship talk and margaritas.
and just to prove how cool we really are,
this entire meet up (or TWEETup) was formed over twitter.
